Artist's Description
In 1875, this historic Catholic chapel near Santa Maria, California, still in use today, was completed by the daughter of Benjamin Foxen. He was an Englishman who immigrated to California and married into a Californio family. During the Bear Flag conflict, Foxen secretly guided John Fremont to Santa Barbara, California helping Fremont avoid an ambush.
